Study of the effects on employment of public aid to renewable energy sources

La agenda de creación de empleos verdes desarrollada por España dentro del marco de la UE muestra que hay una destrucción neta de empleos de 2,2 puestos de trabajo en el resto de la economía por cada nuevo empleo verde.

This study is important for several reasons. First, the Spanish experience is considered a leading example to be followed by many policy advocates and politicians. This study presents, for the first time, a critical analysis of the actual performance and impact that this policy has made. Most important, it demonstrates that the Spanish/EU-style “green jobs” agenda, now being promoted in the U.S., in fact destroys 2.2 jobs per job created. The study’s results show how such “green jobs” policy clearly hinders Spain’s way out of the current economic crisis by the time US politicians consider that adopting such a scheme will help them leave their crisis behind.
